Check Your Vehicle’s Health
This is of course hugely important - you don’t want to be traveling anywhere without knowing that your vehicle is as healthy as possible. There are a few basic checks you’ll want to make before you go, including the tyres, the oil and the coolant levels. You should also consider having the vehicle serviced generally and ensuring that the brakes are checked over too. Also make sure the lights and wipers are in a good condition before you head off, and the battery too. Don’t just assume the vehicle is roadworthy until you have checked.
Map Out Your Route
It can be hugely fun to get lost, but you might also want to consider having a route planned out well in advance. This is always going to be the much less stressful option, and it’s something that you’ll find really helpful to consider. That doesn’t mean you have to keep it tight - you can create a flexible route that you are able to adapt at will - it just means that you’ll probably want to have some kind of route to work with at least. One way is to find some decent looking RV parks and plan a route that connects them up. That is going to help you to plan ahead much more easily and fully.
Pack The Essentials
A big part of the preparation task is figuring out what you need to take, and what you can probably leave behind. It’s vital to make sure you have all the right stuff, and knowing what that stuff is can be tricky. You’ll want your food, clothes, comfort, as well as a first-aid kit, a flashlight with batteries and plenty of water, just in case. It is also a good idea to always have some cash with you, which can be helpful a lot of the time. And you might want to take a multi-tool with you.
Think About Entertainment
Road trips are not about the destination, but the journey, and you’ll want to make sure you are able to keep your brain busy while you are on the move. You’ll therefore want to think about what kinds of entertainment you might want to take with you, from books and board games to podcasts, audiobooks and more. You should also get ready to practice your conversation skills, which will come in very handy when you are in someone’s company all the time.
