Many people spend time in Sucre learning Spanish, but being adventurers in heart and with such beautiful weather, sitting indoor was not exactly our idea of having a great time. Therefore, we rather searched for outdoor things to do in Sucre, the Bolivian capital city.
Huayna Potosi is one of the white peaks surrounding La Paz and claimed to be an easy to climb 6000 m peak. In La Paz, there are many agencies offering climbing tours to Bolivian snow peaks, including one day course of ice climbing. As we wanted to climb this high since we came to South America, this seemed like a perfect opportunity to watch a sunrise from 6000m.
El Choro is one of the most popular Bolivian hiking trails. It starts at La Cumbre pass, at the altitude of 4600 m and slowly drops through the Bolivian forest into a lovely city of Coroico at 1750 m. While many people get to enjoy this lovely trek, watching the nature changing from high mountains to green jungle, we were not so lucky and our hike went completely different than we have expected.
Walking in rain is not fun. Walking in wet shoes is not fun at all. Walking in rain and wet shoes for 5 days is simply awful. And this is how our Salkantay trek to Machu Picchu looked like. Was it just about the rain or were there also some shiny moments on this trek?
Inti Punku literally means Sun door in Quechua, we haven't got much sun while being up there, but we sure got a wonderful view at the valley and the clouds hiding 6000 m tall snow peaks.
When we have discovered a way towards the Chicon Mountain, which most people admire only from bellow, it was no doubt we want to climb it. And so one Saturday morning, we have set to this demanding hike.
We chose the Saywa hill as one of our first hiking destination in Sacred Valley. Besides a beautiful view at the Chicon glacier, the top of this 3840 high mountain offers also an interesting Incas' archeology remains.
The Colca Canyon is perhaps the second deepest, but for me, it’s the first most beautiful. During our visit, we went to the lower part of the canyon to hike in unspoiled nature untouched even by a Lonely Planet Guide.
